Kristie Rowe

Kristie Rowe is a multidisciplinary visual artist mainly working in painting, sculpture and site specific installation.

Seventh generation Western Australian on her Dad’s side, Kristie has explored her rural heritage and family links to prominent Western Australian sites such as The Roundhouse in Fremantle. 
Growing up partly on farms in the Wheatbelt as well as in Perth, Kristie is highly influenced by the natural environment, cultivation of plants and fruits, the cycles of nature, elemental forces and greater connection to the universe. Kristie’s work shows a connection to the Western Australian landscape with a mythological sensibility, her art practice incorporating innovative visual ideas for site specific storytelling through installation, live performance and film.

Painting with oils on large-scale canvases from her light filled studio at Old Customs House, her process is informed by a deeply intuitive relationship to pigment, texture and light.
The tactility of her work is reflective of her former career in London working with antique textiles, leading to the creation of bespoke couture in Melbourne, where her work was featured in “Voice of a Century: 100 years of Vogue” British Fashion alongside, Galliano and McQueen. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts from UWA and a Diploma in Fashion Design, Sydney.
Kristie has strong 3 dimensional perception, and art making is dependent on the context, exploring a wide variety of mediums to portray her conceptual ideas.

Nominated for an ACCTA, for Best Costume Design in a Film for Pieces and winner of the WA ScreenCulture Awards for Outstanding Production Design. Winner of the Hangers Choice Award at the Kennedy Art Prize with her oil portrait ‘The Shapeshifter’. Kristie’s work is in private and public collections, recently ‘The Last of the Dryblowers’ oil painting was acquired by the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

The Garde hotel in Fremantle is currently showing part of her Batavia Shipwreck cut-work series from Lucretia’s Lament at the reception as well as a large diptych oil painting Terra Australis Incognita in their foyer.
